Citing Your Work

Cite an image found on a book:

Last Name, First Name. Title of Book. Publisher, Publication Date.

Example: Carol, James. The Brave Ones. Penguin, 2007. 

Cite for a page on a website:

Author Last name, first name (if available). "Name of the Article." Name of Site. Name of institution that published site, date resource created, URL. Date of Access.

Example: Brown, Ann. "Blogs vs. Wikis." Science Magazine. Science. 25 Nov. 2009, www.science.com/000123. Accessed 13 Mar. 2020.  

 *Note:  When using the URL, remove the https:// and start with www.

*Note: If the Publisher is the same as the website, do not include it.

Cite for a page on a website:

-  All images are referred to as Fig. and given a number. Place the caption under the image. 

1. If the image has an author and a title:

Creator’s Last name, First name. “Title of the digital image.”  Date Created , Title of website, Publisher, Date of publication (Day Month Year). URL Date of Access (Day Month Year).

    Example:

 Fig. 1 Mars, Mary. "1950 Costumes." News and Events, Seton Hall University, 30 Jan. 2016. www.shu.edu/media/. Accessed 1 June 2020.

1A. If there is no title for the image, describe the image. Do not use quotation marks or italics.

Below is an example on formatting images and/ or figures:

Fig. 1. Warner, Mike. "Monet's Garden." 6 Oct. 2017, Flickr, flic.kr/p/ZsF6q1.

Note: If you include the full citation in the caption of the photo AND the image is not cited in-text, no reference entry is needed on the works cited page.
